International Cabernet Sauvignon Day
Today is International Cabernet Sauvignon Day, when wine lovers around the world raise a toast to Cabernet Sauvignon – the sun-loving red grape known for its deep color, robust tannins, and great aging potential.
We invite you to celebrate with the 2021 Connaissance The Mountain King. Released this year, the wines of Connaissance showcase single varietal expressions from individual vineyard blocks, contrasting and complementing the blended cuvées of Vérité.
The Mountain King is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon derived from Block 82 at the very top of Stonestreet Estate in the Alexander Valley AVA. This majestic site rises to 2,400 feet, at the extreme limits of winegrowing. A combination of well-drained soils, abundant sunlight, and cooling ocean winds produces a complex and bold Cabernet Sauvignon that is delicious to savor now but also has the power to go the distance in your cellar.

AVA: Alexander Valley, Sonoma
Vineyard: Stonestreet Estate Block 82
Elevation: 2,400ft

The name “The Mountain King” is a reference to this vineyard’s position, perched at the very top of Stonestreet Estate with exposures to the south and southwest overlooking Alexander Valley below. Composed of shallow, well-drained soils, this site receives ample sunlight and warmth from its position above the marine layer, while cooling afternoon winds from the Pacific Ocean bring balance, moderating afternoon heat throughout the growing season. The Cabernet Sauvignon from this block is incredibly structured and complex, with aromatics of black currant, freshly shaved graphite, and black tea leaf.
