Le Diamant
2023
Vintage
2023 will be remembered as one of longest and coolest growing seasons in recent Sonoma County history, and one which produced wines of exceptional quality.
The months following completion of the 2022 harvest saw cold weather and the return of abundant rainfall, breaking the ongoing drought, and reinvigorating the energy in our vineyard soils. This cold wet weather persisted deep into the spring, delaying budbreak and flowering, though by mid-May the rains subsided, and gentle, warm weather set in. Although the season was several weeks later than average, the growing conditions throughout summer and fall were ideal, allowing for slow phenolic maturation of the fruit with gentle accumulation of sugars. Harvest began in our first Sauvignon Blanc micro-cru on September 11, and the last of the white grapes were brought in on September 20.
Vérité wines from this long, cool vintage carry a tension delivered by restrained alcohol levels and vivacious acidity, however they possess concentration and power. They are charming in their youth, and have the freshness, balance, and structure to age for a very, very long time.
Notes
This inaugural vintage of Vérité Le Diamant radiates a platinum-gold core of color, with hints of green-gold around the rim. The nose captivates with a bouquet of lemon zest, white peach, kaffir lime leaf, and chamomile tea, with subtle hints of fresh cream, and fragrant white flowers. The palate begins with a linear focus, then gracefully unfolds, becoming silky and luxurious. Elevated acidity lends a harmonious balance, driving to a long, lingering finish, laced with wet stone minerality. — Tasting Date: November 2024
